Installing a tin backsplash is a job that most even novice do-it-yourself types can handle. It is a project that requires some forethought and decisions but can easily be accomplished in a day. In fact, those who are handy can actually get a sink or stove splash protector completed within a matter of hours.

There are not very many tools that are needed for this installation. Most can be found in nearly every home. The most important items to get started are those that help to complete the project planning and preparation work. While it may seem a bit odd, the first piece of equipment that the renovator will use is a simple piece of sandpaper.

The wall will need a bit of preparation, first a good cleaning with a chance to dry. The sandpaper will be used to sand down the wall to ensure that it is completely smooth.  Complete sanding ensures that there will be no bumps showing up after the tin is installed.

Another simple tool is a piece of chalk which is used to draw a chalk line. This line is the guide for the first row of tile placement and it will ensure that that the rest of the job is straight and level. Now it is time to prepare the selected tin panels for installation on the wall. Many homeowners opt to apply some type of coating to protect the brand new backsplash.

The pre-selected adhesive is applied to the back of the tin panels, paying close to the directions that came with this glue. A simple kitchen spatula or spreader can be a very good way to control the amount of adhesive that is applied. All that is necessary now is carefully applying the new panels to create the tin backsplash. Those that are more creatively inclined may opt to add additional decorating touches and the same adhesive can often be used to apply these too.
