Believe it or not, buckwheat pillows have literally been in existance for centuries! Originally developed by Egyptians, they eventually spread throughout China and Asia, and within the last 200 years, finally came to Europe and North America.

Now, millions of Americans are enjoying a good night of sleep thanks to buckwheat hull pillows. One of the main reason for their spreading popularity is allegies. For years, Europeans, Canadians and Americans have used pillows made of down - which is nothing more than the feathers of birds. Now don't get me wrong, a down pillow can be extremely comfortable, but it can also lead to some serious allergy problems for many people. The bird feathers have been known to aggravate allergies and often cause people severe problems - specifically respritory problems which can lead to a poor night's sleep, snowballing into even more serious health problems.

There are other pillows besides buckwheat and down pillows - for example many pillows are made from cotton. Cotton pillows are also much better for allergy problems, but they wear down quickly and become hard, which can also lead to sleep problems. Some people also prefer memory foam pillows, although many people find them to feel unnatural and uncomfortable, plus they are significantly more expensive then basic pillows.

All of these reasons have contributed to a surge in the popularity of the buckwheat hull pillow. Buckwheat pillows are an inexpensive way to get a comfortable, allergy free night of sleep.

One of the things to look for when buying a buckwheat pillow is whether it is organic or not. Some buckwheat pillows may contain pesticide or herbicides used in growing the buckwheat. An organic buckwheat pillow should contain 100% buckwheat with no chemical additives. Be sure to check the fine print before buying, as a chemical free buckwheat pillow will definitely lead to a better night of sleep!

One particularly popular brand is the Sobakawa buckwheat pillow. These pillows are widely popular for their clean, additive-free construction, and they are extremely comfortable. Although there are a wide variety of buckwheat pillows available on the market, this is definitely a name to look for, as they are enjoyed by countless people throughout the world.

The buckwheat pillow has come a long way since it was invented thousands of years ago, and I'll bet the ancient Egyptians didn't realize how much of a positive effect they would have on people afflicted by allergy problems around the globe, but one thing is for sure - the buckwheat pillow is here to stay!
